Thanks for including this link Erik.

You bring up an excellent point Lash about those old economy cars and their fuel-sipping capabilities (that reminds me of my old ’88 Plymouth Colt!). This comes around to these reports, especially what Erik provided, which is explaining it in an apples-to-apples fashion. Sure, economy has increased and emissions are down, BUT, we’re not all driving around in microcars. Yeah, a Suburban of today is extremely better than the old C/K-based ‘Burb of the ‘90s, but she’s still thirsty. They ain’t no 40 MPG kid haulers...

I suppose the key target is just how much carbon molecules are going into the air. Considering how many more vehicles are on the road and our appetite for grandeur, it’s okay. Could be better, or could be a helluva lot worse.

I’ll keep my Fiat for DD duties, I’ll keep all of the emissions junk intact on my Mondi and will try to clean up my 308.

Peter, all this car related content!?

Are you kidding me? :)

Interesting release although it would be cool to see a chart of MPG trends over the past few decades.

I remember the Chevy Spectrum, CRX HF and Geo Metro XFi getting 45 mpg many moons ago?

Granted, the corporate average would have been much lower but there were some standouts!

Doug may chime in here and tell us again about when the catalytic converter first came out and how it made a dramatic difference in Kalifornia’s air quality. It’s certainly obvious we’ve come a long way.
