Actually, the Dino, along with the 365 Boxer, the 365 GTC/4 and the 365 GT/4 2+2 all used Marelli “Dinoplex” ignition. Basically, capacitive discharge systems. You would know that the Big Three discovered transistorized (computer-age) ignition systems helped create additional power, improved mileage and extended service intervals all in one shot. The Europeans caught onto it as well. Worked fabulously... Until it didn’t (but that was probably due more to quality-control issues than anything else). Luckily, MSD’s CDI system was robust, which made it more reliable and was literally a bolt-in replacement. Oh, and about a tenth of the cost too. You’ll find many of these under the hoods of those aforementioned models out there.

Cassettes, ha! More likely to find 8-tracks in those cars! My Dad held onto his 8-track radio and transferred it from new car, to new car well into the obsolescence phase!

Oh – and one other nice thing about early pre-injection Ferrari’s . . . . no computers.  Not even a teensy bitsy O2 sensor.  The worst thing that can happen to an electronic device in these cars is the rubber band in the Blaupunkt slips and you can’t play your favorite cassette anymore.

Alas
