Paul, no...on the 355 (and many other Ferraris) the engine is a dry sump
with a remote reservoir (usa model 308's are wet sump).  You measure the oil
from the reservoir at shut down.  If you wait too long, or when the engine
is cold, the reservoir will have drained back to the sump, and you will read
low or nothing on the stick, when in fact the engine is full.  If you go
ahead and add oil in this state, you will now have a greatly overfilled
sump.

I've had American cars where the needle had stop pin at 10mph.  No mechanic
could offer an explaination.  Guess that's for making 'Boston' smooth stops.


On the oil issue, we went through this 5+ years ago and from numbers 308
owners submitted, I webbed this graph.
