Re: 355 exhaust manifolds or thoughts on buying one...

I'm 6'4" and the 355 is a very comfortable fit for me. OTOH, a 430 is even better. What have those Italians done? Being wedged into an Italian car interior, three sizes too small used to be a badge of honor for me.

What is this world coming to?

Britt, I've had both. I think the 348 is a great bargain in the Ferrari
world, and the 355 is rapidly becoming a great bargain as well. As always,
I compare it to the Porsche market: the 328 is equivalent to the 911 3.2
Carrera; lots of people LOVE them, they are mid-80's tech at best, but dead
solid reliable and decently quick. The 348 = 964, a brand new car that
ushered in a LOT of new tech, but with also some flaws, and was never really
taken to heart by the traditionalist. A LOT faster, though, and a great
bargain. The 355 = 993, very similar to their forebears, but fixed a lot of
problems, and considered to be the "best of the last", before Maranello and
Stuttgart went to the 996 and 360, which are fantastically better CARS, but
not necessarily better FERRARIS/PORSCHES.

Try both. I would spend the extra money on the 355, if nothing else than
IT'S A LOT MORE COMFORTABLE, especially if you're any bigger than, say,
Lashdeep. The 348 seats SUCK for anyone with a waist bigger than, say, 32",
and the 355 has more legroom for people over, say, 5'9 (no center console
means you can swing a leg into that space, makes a huge difference. That
alone means I'd never go back to a 348.

If the 355 has good records and has some of the mentioned issues addressed,
I'd go that way. I've never been a huge fan of the 348 styling, whereas I
think the 355 is the last beautiful Ferrari to date.

80 more hp would cost you a bunch of money to do for a 348, plus the 6-speed
has largely done away with the cold 2nd gear shifting issue that would exist
with the 348. Of course, when driving my 355 casually, I generally only use
gears 1-3-5 because the ratios are otherwise so close that it's barely worth
shifting.

I don't know the UK market, but around here I think if you shopped hard you
could find a 355 much closer than 30% to a 348 price. Even well cared for,
the 348 has only averaged 1000 miles per year. Given that you actually drive
your cars, I think you'd be asking for a first year that included a lot of
shop time for regular garage-queen type repairs.

Well, on an even keel maybe they are but looks aside for 30% less I can
get a
well cared for 10 year old, 10,000 mile 348 vs an 8 year old 355 with
30,000
miles. For 30% less.....In that case which is better....

(sorry for the delays in answering you guys but obviously we have a time
difference here.)

Britt

Put the bottle down. I can't believe you asked if 355's are better.
Have
you not been paying attention?
