I can only imagine that DirecTV didn't want to pay the licensing fee that
TiVo required to renew the partnership. And they also must have come up with
a "build" answer when they ran it through their "build vs. buy" analysis,
and decided to create their own DVR.

Thank you Steve that is what I was looking for.

I frequently watch one show while recording another, or have 2 shows 
recording at the same time while watching a third from the now playing 
list.  I also love all the hacks.

Why would DirecTV go backwards?
