Ken: I agree with some of what you say, but this is not the answer. Natural selection, and Malthusian theorem are better solutions to third world overpopulation. All we, as Americans, need to do about it is to stay out of it and quit saving everyone from themselves. Don't you find it curious how, in a developed nation such emphasis is placed on prenatal and perinatal care of both mother and fetus (I recognize this as an inseparable quantity) and mother and fetus and while most of Africa lives on borderline starvation, and HIV/AIDS infestations these mothers manage to survive and to drop an annual issue of offspring without any such modern assistance. Famine, pestilence and disease are the natural means of controlling population in the third world and once we, as Americans as well as all other members of the developed "First World" learn this, and cease to interfere that segment of the world's population will fall into balance, and perhaps the survivors would modify their behaviors to cause a cessation of these necessary population adjustment factors. It would also serve to assist us in reducing our level of taxation as well as our national deficit. And perhaps we would have time to educate the potentates of the Middle East, and our despotic enemies in OPEC from other geographical locations such as Venezuela as to the difference between surface and mineral rights and reinstate our rightful claim to oil production as well as reasonable access to assets and pricing.
