Wow, the list gets longer, but check the fuel hoses too. In particular the fuel filler neck hose that goes from the fuel filler to the left side fuel tank. They rarely get checked until they are leaking, and the fuel will leak right onto the forward exhaust manifold...and since this is during filling, that exhaust manifold is HOT. Just remember, even the "newest" 308 is now 22 years old! I have an 85 308, and in '97 while in the middle of a tuning session, from all the steam, I thought the engine exploded - turns out the factory hose blew a hole right near the intake next to the tunnel. Right then and there, I decided to replace every old hose with new Gates green/gold stripe and have been a happy camper since. Of course, as you get the car apart, you will find other small maintenance items to replace, but at the end of the odyssey you will have a sound car that YOU know was correctly maintained.
