Re: 550 cost of ownership?

The control arms on the B5 Audi and the E30 fail, much, much sooner than
100K. Depending on your driving habits, maybe as early as every 30k. Both
of my cars and even on my old E34 BMW were replaced before 50k miles. They
were flawed designs on expensive cars.

I agree with you though Jim. A $225k car should have some higher standard
with regards to quality. But honestly, when my $50k daily driver sedan
doesn't either, who cares?

At least I'll be ready with background knowledge of why I need to replace
steering racks, control arms and/or radiators. Although, I still won't
understand why they can't design them properly.

I should add up the total costs one of these days, but my Audi and BMWs
have had more individual unscheduled repairs than all of the exotics and
vintage cars (8) I've ever owned, combined, by a large margin. But, since
I do most of my own maintenance/repair, the costs have been fairly
reasonable. If I didn't like driving them, they would've been long gone.

And god bless Todd. I had my '85 Jetta for 3 yrs. I loved it. But, as he,
replaced every piece on that car at least once (except the engine). I'd
buy it back in a heartbeat! Nuespeed Race Springs, Brembo brakes, Neuspeed
swaybars, Schrick cam, 16v downpipe...
