first Ferrari...... and last

In 1975, I was 17 years old when the 308 came out. I thought it was the
most beautiful car I had ever seen and still do. I fell in love with the
styling right away and like 99% of teenagers I wanted one. Except,
unlike 99% of teenagers, I never stopped dreaming AND TRYING to get
one. Go forward to august 2001, I’m 43 years old and I buy a red on
black 1981 308 GTSi. I had been seriously looking for one for 2 years
prior to 08-01. Even lost one on Ebay by 5 seconds. I’m glad I lost it
because it was black on black and it was in Atlanta. I live in Montreal,
Quebec. Few weeks later, I saw it on internet by pure coincidence. The
seller was in Toronto. I contacted him and 1 week later the Ferrari was
parked in front of my apartment on the street, I had no garage. I bought
it on a Friday after driving 5 hours (Montreal to Toronto). I arranged
for my Hyundai Scoupe to be sent by truck and drove back to Montreal
with the Ferrari. I had Ontario license plates, no insurance, no proof
the car was mine except for a signed paper from the seller. Every august
10th, I drink a whole bottle of champagne (Moet & Chandon) with a
different friend to celebrate that glorious day. I drive 2,000 to 3,000
miles a year. I’ve been to Atlantic City twice and Boston once. I’ve
been smiling 24 hours a day ever since.

My first …..and last Ferrari.

Michel
