Never an LM!!

Well..i wanted a carby car because the club has fragmented a little...they
now have carby events and modern events....and all the old codgers who I
hung out with in the club drive the oldies...i didn't want a twelve...and
since it's going to be, more or less, my everyday car, I like its
practicality. Let me add, however, that my previous every day car only did
2-3000km a year!

Plus...the one I found is a ripper!

Hi Peter,

I'm curious. Since you have had or still do have 355s, Boxers and F40s,
F40LMs and so on, why the 308gt4? Not that I'm knocking them - I have had
one myself for 14 years or so anyway and it is a fine and noble car - but
I'm just curious. Are you going to do it up for Targa Tasmania perhaps, a
bit like Jim Reark's? Whatever.  Just curious.

As for the XWXs, I have the original 6.5 x 14 Cromodora rims. I currently
run Falkens for just poodling about, and they are ok but I used to run
Dunlop Formula Rs and they were terrific - very sticky - don't think they
make them in that size any more. I am soon going to get a set of Compomotive
16 x 7 fronts and 16 x 8 rears and put Dunlop D20G front, 205/55R16 (632mm
outer diameter), and Dunlop D01J rear, 225/50R16 (632mm outer diameter).
The key here is the matched rolling diameters. I am told that, given the
308/ 328 suspension geometry, going lower profile loses something in the
translation. That is, yes, going 16" definitely improves the 308gt4, but
going further is not only a waste of time but actually does not suit the car
so well.

Very sound idea to replace the sodium-filled valves. My disaster happened at
less than 40,000 km (not miles!) and running at about 3,500rpm at the time.
Now I have done the very un-concourse thing and have the 328 motor in my
gt4. Got rid of the 328's mechanical fuel injection and put a sequential
system in using 348 injectors and made a lot of other changes. It's an ever
evolving project, but key to me is that it looks dead standard until you
lift the engine lid. All good fun!
