I'm certainly not qualified to debate the sodium valve issue, but I'll repeat what my mechanic said......
He said that the valves will only break if they had been bent sometime in their life - even if only slightly. He said the most common way that they get bent is if a cam moves when changing a timing belt, which apparently happens if you don't lock them down properly. He said that he has never seen one break in any car that has been serviced at a reputable shop. Again, just repeating, but this guy normally has 3 or 4 308 series cars in his shop at any time, and he's been fixing F-cars since the early 1970's.
