Just out of curiosity ... on the 328 the alternator is on the right side of the car, very low, close to the oval chassis. I would say it is far enough from the headers, and it has kind of a "ventilation system", with a tube that comes out in the middle of the car, facing down.
Does this match the 308, or is it different ?

Between us, I think the problem is HEAT. The alternator sits right next to the headers and just cooks. I believe that the mechanical failures are because the heat cooks the oil out of the bearings.
