I wish to point out that it costs the same amount to buy and refine  
petroleum in the UK as the US. The difference in price is all taxes.  
They want you out of your cars and on the bus. Travel schedules are  
conveniently posted.

CAFE standards or draconian taxation, neither are needed. If the  
demand for gasoline, or diesel, exceeds supply the marketplace will  
take care of it. So far at least, Federal regulations concerning  
gravity have been ignored but the bastards are trying... and if all  
the anthropogenic CO2 production extant were to cease tomorrow it  
would not make one damn iota of difference to global climate change.  
Fwiw the surface of Neptune has warmed 12*C in the same climactic  
epoch that is being projected as proof of our imminent demise.
