In South Carolina, you can take the same type of classes, but all you get is a points credit on your license. It does not eliminate the ticket. The result is only worthwhile if you are in danger of losing your license from too many points. The points credit can keep you under the limit of 12, but all your tickets still show. Further, it does nothing for your insurance (even though they claim it does since you'll have no/lower points) since the insurance companies only evaluate the existance and timing of listed violations on your record. They don't actually care what your number of points are. Further, in SC traffic offenses are prosecuted by the individual officers. There is no DA to bargain with, so most of the time you are flat out screwed. -- charles -----Original Message----- From: Brian E. I haven't been to one in a while but I remember the fees are pretty much exactly the same cost as paying a speeding ticket. Around $150. Once you finish the class there are no test or anything like that - you just can't get another ticket in the same county/state for 6 months, and if you don't then the ticket disappears and never goes on your driving record. It's pretty neat and I have had as many as 3 deferrals going on in IN at the same time - all in different counties! They never check.
