Place the dollar bill on the upper door jamb and close the door. Jack the car at that side's jacking point and if the bill doesn't fall out the body hasn't yet rotted out.

Yeah. If the dollar bill falls into one of the body panel separations, just
keep putting them in until you run out of them. Then find more, put more
in, etc. Kind of like the saying " a boat is a hole in the water into which
you drop money."

I find it difficult to forgive present day poor materials selection
(crumbling fuel pump parts). Reminds me of the gastly lack of corrosion
protection and poor choice of materials in mechanical components
(especially brakes) and body parts of E-types - and that was over 40
years ago. Anyone remember the "dollar bill test" when buying a used
E-type?

There are a number of threads on ferrarichat.com

The problem areas seem very few, by Ferrari standards:

1) Weak coolant hoses under the intake plenum (Ferrari has updated hoses,
but many use aftermarket silicone replacements)
2) Broken motor mounts.
3) Fuel pump failures. Apparently there are parts on the fuel pump

(which

is inside the fuel tank) that crumble or disintegrate. Requires removal

and

cleaning of fuel tank, and replacement of fuel pump. Replacement pump

will

eventually have a repeat of the problem.

The 550 is a great car. I drove a friends and I was very impressed with

how

nimble and well it drove!

What are the weak spots on a 1999 550 Marenello?
What is the service interval?
Any updates that should be / have been done?
Thanks
Doug
