Interesting ... I was told by at least two different people at Redline  
that the 308 required a GL-5 (hypoid) gear oil. (I now assume that  
this is because Ferrari specified a GL-5 oil in the first place)
Since then I've been using their 75w90 NS with just enough friction  
Modifier to keep the LSD happy and it has been working well for me.
Although I think if i were going to use a  GL-4 oil, I'd probably use  
their MT-90 (basically a heavier version of the MTL).
But, hey what do I know ...

of the AGIP oil spec'd by Ferrari at the time. One session at the  
track

finished off several transaxles and we were told unofficially by  
Ferrari to

quit using it in cars that would see track service. That garbage did  
remain

the official oil.

I have been using MTL in customer cars that had cronic shifting  
complaints

for several years including one 85 308 in daily service with over  
115,000

miles on it and the owner is pleased to this day how his transmission

performs.

It's great oil. If you have a shifting problem use it.

I would not use it in any transaxle in a 275, 330, 365, BB, BBi, TR,  
288,

F40, 550, 456, 360, 430, 612, or 599. Those are all medium offset  
hypoid

gear differentials and should have GL5 oil.

Redline 75W90 NS is a better choice with a very SMALL amount of
friction modifier added to keep the LSD happy.
This is my understanding and is what the people at Redline reccomend.
However, I have not been able to confirm that the 308 requires a
hypoid oil with any certainty.
You don't want to use an oil that is too slippery as the synchros
require a certain amount of friction to work correctly. Most gear oils
have friction modifiers added to them for the differential ... This
presents a challenge with regard to a transaxle.
