The Countach etc. are not poor cars by any means, they are supercars. It's just that the more super a car is, the more focused it is. These wonderful machines are the sine qua non when it comes to lap times, acceleration, and cornering. Obviously they would not be the best choice for a weekend trip to Home Depot if you need some lumber to build a dog house!

The best GT cars in my mind have 90% of the performance envelope these supercars do, but also offer more comfortable seating, a little more space for a couple of suitcases and a more complaint road-going suspension. The engines are somewhat detuned allowing for increased reliability, nice when you are crossing Nebraska in a rain storm. The cabin is quiet enough to allow conversation. or music.

There is every possible shade and facet of compromise on the market from a balls-out F430 Scuderia or Porsche GT2 on one hand to a Buick Enclave crossover on the other. But for me a true GT car must be fast, gorgeous and somewhat exclusive. The Maserati GT Coupe is a great example, the Mercedes 500 SL. Something to whisk away in with your girlfriend to San Francisco for a weekend of sin at a discreet, expensive hotel. I recommend the Casa Madrona in Sausalito. Leave your car there and take the ferry in to the city. http:// www.casamadrona.com/

My personal choice when the lottery calls: the Fisker Latigo CS http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-2006-Fisker-Latigo-CS.htm

best!

I'll leave that debate to someone who has actally driven them more than a
few miles - my only seat time in a Ferrari is in a 87 328GTSi so my exposure
to these supercars is limited to reading, TV and video.

However (saw that coming, right?) ;-) from what I've seen I believe some
people feel all 3 of those would be poor choices for a long trip - which I
believe is what you were saying - I do have a video of J Surtees test
driving a F40 proves that out - if the audio is accurate. That sucker was
pretty loud. While I enjoy the music a 12 cylinder (or 8, 6 or 4) makes, if
it;s too loud it gets tedious. After 3 or 4 hours at least.

;-)

Have a nice Sunday --

Well, like I said, I didn't get to drive it. But, I did get to set in it

friend, could easily overcome the engine.

Larry,

Saying the Ford GT is a poor long distance car is as appropriate as saying
the F40 or Countach are poor long distance cars.

As for the Ford vs. Ferrari debate, I think the two cars cannot be
compared,
and if possible both should be owned. A lot of people are of the mutually
exclusive mindset with european exotics and domestics, but I and a few
