Oops. Sorry I should have said CO2.

But, how can that be? There's no people to blame --- well, no people like we think of people/ ;-) As we all know, affluent capitalist are to blame for everything wrong in this world ;-p

Actually, CO IS one of them. CO is carbon monoxide, and can cause symptoms at 100 parts per million. At 667 ppm, up to 50% of the blood can be made incapable of carrying oxygen.

Of course, though, CO isn't what you're talking about - that's CO2 (carbon dioxide). Interesting story on Wikipedia about Venus's atmosphere (about 60% CO2). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus#Atmosphere. Its damn hot, full of CO2, and apparently much hotter than it used to be.

Of course in our atmosphere, the absolute concentration of anything is pretty meaningless - the change is the interesting thing. And a 35% delta is pretty big. Sure, there's a lot of hype about this, and lots of people trying to make money on it (that's how the economy works, and most people like the free market). But the science isn't driven by hype or money. It is mostly a bunch of tenured professors doing what they do. Sure, there is some level of following what is hot involved in getting grants, but that doesn't invalidate the data.
