I went through the 308 vs 328 dilema 10 yrs ago and decided my heart was
with the more sexy and sharp lines of the 308. I also think the 308
switches look more like a "proper" sports car than the elecronic knobs of
the 328. I purchased an 85, the last year the 308 was manufactured - by
this time they had most of the glitches out. I have had 10 yrs of fairly
troublefree FUN.

As you can see, your decision is really all about emotion - decide what
"trips your trigger", and buy it. You will have minimal differences in
maintenance between a newer(1985) 308 and the 328.....

I owned a 78 308GTS like Bob (carb) and later an 87 328 GTS. The 328 was
hands down a better driving and operating car. But....I have always liked
the cleaner lines of the 308. And some find the dated, Lucas switches on
the console "quaint". ;-) It all boils down to what you like.

As Ken said, they are all old cars now, so inspect VERY carefully, and have
a contingency fund ready. It will be MUCH easier to find a good condition
328 than a 308, simply because they are a few years newer..I learned that
pretty fast when I was looking to replace my 78 308GTS several years ago.

BTW, I now have a 355 spider, it does rings around the old 328 too! I'm
sure the 360 and 430 are even better still...ah progress.... :)

Between those two, I would definitely go with the 328. Much better car. I
see no advantage to the QV 308. Does anyone else?

Being me, I'd much rather have a carbed 308 than either of the above.

If it is a low mileage garage queen, figure on spending $6K the first year
replacing anything that moves (or is supposed to move). Either that, or
leave it as a garage queen and do nothing.

If it is a regularly driven example, figure on spending $2K the first year.

I am new to the list and have a question. I have never owned a Ferrari but
have been in love with them for many years. The cost was always too high, so

I specialized in English sports cars. I recently sold my 1959 Jaguar XK
150-S, which I had restored over many years, and am in the market for a
Ferrari. I had my heart set on a "reasonable price, reasonable condition,
reasonable mileage" 308 GTS QV. Reasonable means ~20k-45K mi, $35-42K and
recent Major Service with a clutch change for higher mileage cars.
Unfortunately, there seem to be very few if any, available. One requirement
is Red exterior with Tan or Bone interior. I have found a number of
reasonably priced 328 GTS cars with the correct color and matching the
reasonable price/mileage/condition criteria. I am looking for advice. Should

I hold out for a 308 GTS QV or re-align my thinking and go for a 328 GTS?
If you like, you can reply off-list. Thanks.

George.
