You said <<the EPA has "recalculated" their figures to give more
realistic (?) results>>

Naturally - they can't accept the data from their own tests - that would be waaay to easy ;-)

The new CAFE has long term effects that are worrisome to me. Rather than let consumerism and Capitalism determine what kind of cars are available for us to buy we now have the govt making decisions on what we ultimately are offered. To get to 35 CAFE cars will probably get smaller with lighter panels and chassis - and when a major corp cannot make their nubers will the govt say, "OK, better start shutting production down and send all those union workers home." Not a chance - they'll get an extension -

So now we have auto design by govt - which started back in 1968 - rememebr the confusion when we found those cool glass covers over the XKE headlights were outlawed? Removed a beautiful design feature for queationable govt reasons - at least to me.

But the worst thing about the bill containing the 35 CAFE was the nearly 9000 pieces of Pork included from both sides of the aisle costing over $4.5 Bil. Naturally we need all that crap - ;-p

Merry Christmas -

Just went to www.fueleconomy.gov to check out the mpg rating for the '07
Corvette. Of course the EPA has "recalculated" their figures to give more
realistic (?) results. But, be that as it may, here's what they say about
the '07 Vettes:
Automatic 6 Liter 6 Speed 6 Liter
17 City 27 Highway 18 City 28 Highway
AND WHAT FOLLOWS IS THE ESTIMATED NEW MPG:
15 City 25 Highway 16 City 26 Highway
So, Hans is right on. I know if you have the skip shift (CAGS-computer
assisted gear shift) you'll probably get lower mpg.

The Corvette happens to be one of the BETTER mpg cars in the GM
portfolio.

A couple of years ago, AutoWeek did a real world gas mileage
comparison using 2 cars from each continent (ie - 2 Japan,
2 Euro, etc.) They had a Japanese hybrid and a Euro diesel
included. For the American cars, they threw in a Corvette just
for giggles. Guess what? The Corvette beat many on the list
including the hybrid.

I've personally gotten over 30mpg in them.

Hans.
