Rick, Ok, In my opinion, you really want to go with a MIG. MIG welding is easy and there is no slag when you are finished. 110V MIG welders do a great job for the home environment. I haven't found anything in steel (that I needed done) that I couldn't do with my MIG. I have a Century MIG 110 V wire fed welder that has dual power settings (105A and 90A), infinitely adjustable wire speed and infinitely adjustable temperature settings. Mine will accept wire size from .023" to .035". I have used wire from both extremes and especially the .030" wire size. My welder is right at 15 years old now and still works perfectly. I have only had to put a new liner in the gun and hose. I run 75% Argon gas and 25% CO2 (this is the optimum gas for welding steel). Century is the home improvement store brand name of Lincoln. I have used my welder to: build a tube frame dune buggy, put new floor pans in two Mustangs, patched 3 quarter panels, fixed tons of rust on cars, rebuilt go carts, and generally fixed just about everything made of steel that has ever broke for anyone I know. Not to mention many (repeat many) fun weekend projects. I personally really like Miller, Lincoln, and Hobart in that order. Whatever you buy, count on another $100-$150 for gas bottle, regulator, hoses and gauges (unless you get a kit that has some of this in it). Then the helmet and gloves can run you from $10 to over $300 depending on how fancy you want to go. But, I really like the auto-darkening lens ones and they start around $80 plus and are well worth the money. http://www.millerwelds.com/products/mig/millermatic_140_autoset/ http://www.hobartwelders.com/products/wirefeed/handler140/ http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/equipmentdatasheet.aspx?p=42420 http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/equipmentdatasheet.aspx?p=59618 Every garage needs one of these! I need a tool that will weld sheet metal as well as structural steel on a car. I don't need to weld anything but steel so fancy gas units aren't needed. So what KIND of welder (and current) would you recommended for the jobs I have described above? Advice appreciated. rick lindsay _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/dave.craig%40sbcglobal. net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
