I recently bought a Clarke 130EN MIG welder. It's a better quality hobby welder that's rated at 130Amps and between 3/16" and 1/4" capacity in steel. Although it's convertible to gas, I've been using it with Hobart Fabshield fluxcore wire and getting very good results. I found this site to be helpful. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/

Rick,

Knowing that you are a perfectionist when it comes to restoring your cars, you won't be happy with anything other then a TIG. The important thing with a TIG if you've not used one before is to buy yourself a lesson package at a community college or similar. One night a week for 6 weeks will save you lots of grief and frustration. I'd recommend that for any type of welder you buy, unless you have used that type before. I took a MIG class years ago and it changed my welding from Captain Blobby to Mister silky-flow - well almost :)

Hello Friends,

I am in the market for a welder. I need a tool that
will weld sheet metal as well as structural steel on a
car. I don't need to weld anything but steel so fancy
gas units aren't needed.

So what KIND of welder (and current) would you
recommended for the jobs I have described above? Advice appreciated.
