I remember the first time that I saw Ricardo race. It was the Times GP at Riverside, and he had entered a Porsche RSK Spyder that daddy bought for him in the under 2 litre class. He was only 15 years-old then and he carved up the field which included the best that America had to offer, including both Ken Miles and George Fullmer, among others. His parents were sitting in the paddock area, and I remember his young beautiful mother, in dark glasses and scarf, sitting, doing needle work, apparently never?understanding that her 15 year-old son was doing anything dangerous. The most beautiful and stunning woman that I ever saw at a track was Jill St.John, out with Lance Reventlow while he was testing the Scarab at Riverside in about 1957. Not much makeup, just jaw-dropping beauty. I always had a soft spot in my heart for redheads <g> Compared with Sandy Andretti, teetering in her 5" high heels and cocktail dress with big floppy hat, who I saw in the pits later on ... all I can say is, 'what was Michael thinking?' IMO it's much easier to gauge speed in person than on TV - plus the elevation changes are more dramatic. Too bad his life was so short. He was driving a Porsche 917 at Spa in the rain one year - he was going so fast, hurling the car through the corners with the tail out every time, wheels spinning at all speeds, that the clerk of course was frightened for him - so frightened that he black-flagged Pedro long enough to bring him in to ask him to slow down. In Pedro's opinion he was there to drive as fast as possible - from that stop he raced thru the field again to get back to the front - where he eventually won the race ;-) Larry T (66 MGB, 74 911, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil PORSCHE POSTERS! youroil.net 800-583-8601 Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug and Terri Anderson" <dnt [at] dock.net> To: "Larry Turner" <l02turner [at] comcast.net> Cc: "The FerrariList" <ferrari [at] ferrarilist.com> Sent: Sunday, August 03, 2008 6:21 PM Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Fwd: Suitable for Framing > OH yeah - recall those rolling starts at the Times GP when we are standing > at the start finish with the flag guy at the race start?
