Ken quoted Tommy Jefferson as saying <<government
those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations,
perverted it into tyranny.>>

It appears we are deep into that process -- as I understand it Pelosi and gang are so determined to prevent the "Drill Here, Drill Now" movement from bringing drilling offshore to a vote they turned the lights off while Republican senators continued to speak and today I hear some kind of "compromise" legislation that prevents drilling while showing congress is doing *something*. Don;t they freakin underrstand what the people want? Lower prices and energy independence.

Geez, there's 536 morons inside the beltway - all being paid by tax dollars and all they do is make a show.

As far as the speed traps - the New Jersey portion of I95 used to have toll booths with time stamps on the tickets - rumor has it they checked the time to make sure you didn;t move between booths to quickly.

While he didn;t get the timing quite right when he wrote "1984" he seems to have the concept pretty well covered.

We are being smothered with governmental "Help". Either in the name of safety or "For the Children" It''s like LBJs "War on Poverty" - we'd be better off giving all the poor people $1 mil each and we'd have come out ahead.

sorry for the rant - everything seems to be going into the crapper at once - and the children of gov't take a recess. Not that they;d make things better based on past experience.

You are forgetting about the proposed use of our I-Pass/electronic
toll collection being used to calculate our speed. If your "time"
between toll collection points averages above the set speed limit,
you will receive your tax donation certificate via mail. One way to
beat this is to have "two" I-Passes. You just have to remember to
switch them while "pacing" the traffic between "check points".

This was the system on the French AutoRoutes when I was over there a few years back. No I-Pass; they just issued a paper receipt which you presented at the next window to pay. It had the time of printing stamped on it. Between the toll plazas, which were about 30 KM apart, were wonderful roadside parks with benches etc. The prevailing method of driving was to go like Godzilla was right behind you, then pull into les parc for a Gauloise. Once the requisite amount of time had elapsed you resumed driving absolutely flat out all the way to the next toll plaza.

You cannot legislate human behavior.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government
those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations,
perverted it into tyranny.
