No argument there! Seeing the last of the front engined cars running
(somewhat behind) them new fangled rear engined furrin things was great!

I *was* poking a little fun at F1 and stock engines but it is a pretty good
idea. I wonder how Ferrari would level the playing field - I suspect a custom
Ferrari engine would be miles ahead of a Ford crate engine. Unless the Ford
was tweaked of course, but then you're getting back to the same place you are
now. Maybe just give everyone a jegs.com or Summit Racing catalog and tell
them they can buy anything in the catalog!

On the other hand, F1 is a little like the US Gov - whenever there's a problem
the answer is always more regulations! Then there's the simplified tax regs.
which always adds tens of thousands of words/pages to the regs - That no one
understands of course. ;-)

Take Care,
Larry T

Hey Larry: Don't laugh. I can remember when Dan Gurney came to Indy with
stock block Ford engines, stuffed into his Eagle chasis. And the combo was not
only competitive, but won several races. And that was in the time of 4-cam Ford
Indy engines and turbo-charged Offenhausers, etc.

I don't remember if those were the years of Andy Granitebelly's
Lotus/Wooshmobiles, but they were a sight ot see (but NOT hear) too. Who was it
that said, "if you can't find a loophole in the rules, or can't cheat without
being detected, you're just another LOSER!" God love Andy (with his STP logo
outfits, suit, shirt, and tie'), wherever he is.

Yea, Dan may have tricked the Fords out with Westlake-Gurney heads and F1
type slide fuel injection, but the heart of the engine was still a stock block,
cast iron Ford.

I can only speak for myself, but that was some of the most exciting racing
that I've ever seen, bar none.

  Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba

Hmmmm... maybe Chevy or a Ford V8? Hey, Jegs and Summit have them in
their catalogs! Maybe grab some 4 bbl Holly's too?

Why not run street tires? could probably get a deal on some re-treads!
