Hi Jim -
I have been having the same problem. one thing to consider is most HDs I've looked at are for SATA HDs and my existing HDs are IDE - so a different controller is needed unless I but new HD/s.

Also, if you want to use some PCI cards you'll find the newer MBs often only have 2 slots.

Things are still changing in the world of puters -

The ASUS seem to be high quality altho there's always lots of off brands with lower prices. There's other quality MBs besides ASUS of course - the prices run from around $30 up to several hundred - there's probably some more than that but I never look at them .

Tried a used one bought from a local source - didn't completely fire up so I'll probably check it to see what wires I forgot to hook up ;-) replacing MBs are a PITA BTW -

Subject: [Ferrari] Computer ?

Ok, looks like I'm going to build a new PC. Question is...What
motherboard? This will mainly be used for household apps and surfing the
net. I also just bought a new HD Camcorder, so I will do some light video editing. I'm guessing a quad core processor, so what chipset/motherboard?

Second question..I'm currently running Win2K, which is outdated. I will
need either XP Pro or Vista for the HD Camcorder software. I've been
fearful of Vista because of all the complaints with it. How long will XP
be supported for?

Any recommendations here?
