LOL As a new father I'll forgive you this one...
NO! It works with children, it works with employees.
Wait until yours hits about 5 or 6... I recommend you take some pictures so you can look back to right now and remember how easy it all was :) As for the unions, having grown up outside Pontiac Michigan and knowing many of these folks, I tend to agree that the Unions have crippled the domestic US automakers and their members as well (we are talking about generations of dependency on the Unions here and competition to get in without a family connection at some can be fierce), while other automakers in the US also pay similar wages (look it up, Toyota pays the same hourly as GM for a line worker), their overhead costs are significantly less (as someone pointed out there is a $2000 delta in the cost of each car for Union and retiree benefits being paid out. I don't know if Toyota has a pension plan, but somehow I doubt it. If I recall United retirees were also recently pimped out of their retirement benefits (or most of them) when United went CH11. Today I think folks pretty well expect their employers not to have their back, back in the day that was one of the things corporations had to offer to lure in decent people.
Personally I think the compensation folks get in many cases is way out of proportion to skills, amount of work and contribution to society provided. I'd mention Lawyers here, but would hate to get sued...

All of this analyze, "don't generalize", analyze, analyse, and analyze some more - has gotten us to where we are. Analysis? Not needed Action? NEEDED IPDE brother. Identify - The costs of Union Benefits are killing the big 3 and mismanagement has allowed this to happen Predict - the UNION will not roll back this ridiculosity - ever Decide - The only solution is hence, Ch. 11 - followed by replacement of management and the boards of all 3. Execute - WELL, LETS GET ON IT N.b.: There is no mention of "BAILOUT" here. The Big 3 failed because shit-poor management has been afraid to go toe-to-toe w/ organized-crime-infested unions. (NO, you will not get this healthcare -- NO, you will not get this ridiculous compensation you are asking for -- NO, you will not get a "Jobs Bank" -- You should have studied in High School! -- THE END) It's really not that hard is it? NO! It works with children, it works with employees. NO! No amount of liberal intellecutal-effete hyperanalysis is going to change that. Chapter 11. Eliminate the friggin UNIONS. (If you have any question about this, look at the effects of the UAW on the output quality decline of Saturn!) Stop paying people 60-70/hr in total compensation to PUSH A BUTTON THAT HAS A MACHINE TIGHTEN A BOLT, or to attach a trim piece. THE END. Somehow, everyone else in this world survives without such ridiculous compensation and benefits. Maybe 7-11 clerks and burger flippers should UNIONIZE! LOL. Sorry, but I'm tired of this "The BIG 3 Cannot (be allowed to) FAIL" horseshit.
