Re: TiVo/DVR (I apologize but again)

I apologize for asking after multiple members have answered the questions of
others, but I wasn't really interested in changing or upgrading my DirectTV
subscription at the time.

Can one simply by a TiVo or DVR unit and hook it up in line with the
satellite receiver and own it without paying additional charges or would I
have to
buy it from Direct (at what seems like an incredibly inflated price and then
it is supposedly only "leased" not purchased)?

What are the complexities with installing such a component that would allow
me to watch the programs when I wanted to (delayed, etc.) or to retain them
for a second or third viewing.

Right now I'm still in the primitive world of using a VCR and if I want it
on DVD instead I just take the tape down to the office and put it into the
machine that records DVD's from VCR tapes.

It doesn't take a lot of convincing for me ---
First time I saw NASCAR drivers was at Riverside Intl Raceway in the
mid-sixties.
Ferrari Bubba had scored great working press passes. First time those dudes
had been on a road course.
Lessee - Sporty car guys came with CanAm, a high class group.
Then USAC for the Rex Mays - a tough group whose motto was "eight wheels
corners better than 4" and they didn't mind getting under a competitor and
giving them the opportunity to go flying - - - over the wall.
Then there was NASCAR.. Those guys were cool. First group I saw that could
stick a cigarette in the hole where a tooth had been and carry on a
conversation without ever touching it.
Curtis "a new party starting in ten minutes" Turner - ayep - Read Stroker
Ace - those antics REALLY happened. Bank shot off a motel wall into the
swimming pool with a rental car. A backwards race to the airport and
back - - - Just not to one guy. I recall Curtis drawling "it don't matter
how good yer brakes are - - if yer upside down, they don't work worth a
shit."
Fun group. heh heh

It's not that easy but then it is. You cannot have 64 bit multithreaded
capability unless you use Vista. But some of your older programs will
balk at Vista. If you want optimum performance on select programs use
Vista. If you want no hassle, stay with XP.

You didn't mention Ubuntu which may be the best of all worlds. Check it
out.
