Hi Ed -It was the latest greatest hi tech solution at the time. Another product called Spectra was also marketed (still is) but has different characteristics. Kevlar is resistant to shock while Spectra is resistant to stretch/elongation - or whatever the correct term is. Spectra is often used in high performance sailboat racing since the spectra lines will not stretch and break but Kevlar has little give and will break with little advance notice.
The co I used to work for makes Spectra - the above is part of how it was explained to me. Naturally it's much more complicated than the above - many pages of detail specs are needed to fully understand the differences.
HTHs a *little*. ;-) LarryT When Ted Kennedy goes to Cuba for health care I might consider socialized medicene.----- Original Message ----- From: "E M" <pokiebaron [at] gmail.com>

I think the 288 had both carbon fibre, and kevlar if not mistaken. What was the deal with kevlar in the 80s ? I know some high end Audis used it too. Was it easier to form, not requiring curing in an autoclave or something? Iknow it wasn't cheap!
