You can do Rome in 3 days even if you are slow about it
You will be bored stiff at the end of the 3rd day
After the fountains and the Vatican its over dude trust me

What hotel are you staying at ?
I fly Rome all the time 

Go to Florence that's a must

Ok - I guess I'll spill more details. :)

We're spending a week in Rome, then going to Monza as Ferrari's VIP guests,
touring the factory on the Monday following the race, and coming home on
Tuesday. The Rome part is covered, just looking for advice on how to get
from Milan (where we're staying during the race weekend) to the factory. I
already have my invitation letter to present at the gate at 2:30pm on
Monday.

Easy drive on the A1.   Make certain your dealer sets up the factory tour.  
Stay in downtown Modena.  

Depending on your interests...return Florence/Livorno/Genoa/Milan by A12
or parallel beach road in no less than 5 leisurely days.  
Last trip we stopped in Bonassola but virtually any small town is good.

Personally I'd rather rent (base the trip) in Paris or Rome.
