I LOVE to drive my GT4. It really is a different experience from the other cars in the 3x8 series. I would argue that it is the best handling of the bunch! I wanted to be able to have my '70's Ferrari with '90's or '00's technology, therefore I updated the things that matter starting with the wheels/tires. 14" tires offer little in the way of safety/performance, etc... so I went to 16" tires. Recently, I added new high performance Dunlop tires. In addition, I updated the rubber bits and steering rack. The car is totally transformed and I'm enjoying the hell out of it!

22,000+ miles and counting since I bought it!

I think you should choose safety above it all
Bias ply tires were terrible!

Some days you just have to choose .........originality for concours,
or modifications for your driving pleasure and instant
gratification.....thats why they make vanilla and chocolate ice cream.
You have the luxury of choosing...my rec. is to never throw away the
original pieces, your interests may change if you live long enough, or
the next owner might view things differently than do you.

In my estimation, original is nice, but then performance and handling
  is an evolutionary thing.
