All,You can have the best of both worlds. I have some mods to my car, but almost all can be reversed in a short period of time, and I have all the original parts standing by. If the world ends in 2012, then it doesn't matter but I think of myself as the caretaker of my auto until the next owner. I am hoping he is as passionate about the marque as myself. He will also get a few spares....
I understand upgrades but other than tires I am determined to keep the standard ignition, which is easy to work on and has served me well. In my estimation the 308's and other less expensive cars will only maintain not only their monetary but historic value if kept as original as possible.
No one answered, what is the size limitation a pixel dimension of allowed photos?????

Some days you just have to choose .........originality for concours, or modifications for your driving pleasure and instantgratification.....thats why they make vanilla and chocolate ice cream. You have the luxury of choosing...my rec. is to never throw away theoriginal pieces, your interests may change if you live long enough, orthe next owner might view things differently than do you.In my estimation, original is nice, but then performance and handlingis an evolutionary thing. Back over 17 years ago when I attended my first Ferrari gathering in my newly-acquired and very original 308GT4, someone turned their nose up when I opened the engine lid because a hose clip was not original. I was initially confused and then a bit offended, and then I thought, your name isn't Wayne Kerr by any chance, is it! But at that point I realised that total, obsessional originality was not for me. Now it's too late of course with the modded 328 motor under the lid, but I digress. As for tyres, the technology has advanced so much in the last 40 years and I'd imagine Enzo would have specified the best option of the day by in 1970. So I like to think that "originality" can perhaps be interpreted in the context of the philosophy of the choice, not necessarily the actual choice of the day. Anyway, I believe if you are going to still drive the car, rather than stick it in a museum as a period piece, tyres should be all about driving feel, style and safety. They are the only things that hold you on the planet, after all. I remember 30 years ago when I owned a souped up MGB. It was definitely not original and it was very quick for its day. I experimentedwith many different tyres. I finally settled on a particular Pirelli of the day because they were so, so predictable as to what they were about to do, wet or dry. They would say to me, we are about to let the tail out a bit - are you ok with this? And the tail would gently step out through a corner and then I could simply throttle steer through. Always predictable. Also interesting, AFAIK, MG concours rules actually allow some technicalupgrades, such as retro-fitting MGA disk brakes on earlier T-series models. A friend fitted MGA brakes to his 1954 MGTF and it was an utter transformation, massively cutting the stopping distances and increasingsafety. And that seemed to fit perfectly with the MG motto which used to be "Safety Fast". Cheers for now, Grahame _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/philville%40dejaz zd.comSponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/Philip "Phil" Tegtmeier 39 Churchill Drive, Elverson Pa 19520 610.525.8949 Save these dates: September 12th & 13th 100 Motorcars of Radnor Hunt fantastic 2 day event ......www.radnorconcours.org ........ _________________________________________ September the 27th Garden State Ferrari Fall Festival __________________________________________ And of course, go to: ................www.PhilvilleUSA.com _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/rgarven%40gmail.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
