Well,... like Clyde says, it's not really courage.  While I like the 
comment, it's more training
and education that courage.  Also a large dose of necessity helps. ;-) 
Fortunately, I was
trained in a VW/Porsche factory mechanic's training system which provided 
the basics for
any repairs.

I have done all major kinds of work to the extent I now know enough to 
realize there are some
job I should not (and *will*not) attempt anymore.  Those being exhaust and 
some suspension repairs as
there are just too many special tools needed and/or they are too messy.  By 
messy I mean like working on my back as rust flakes from a old exhaust rain 
down upon my face.  Eye protection saves them but I stay away from these 
repairs & leave them to those with lifts and the proper tools.
