The TR water pump is a finicky pisser. Two years ago it cost me $$$$$ for no good reason.

Ok here is the real answer if the pump is not leaking
Don't break the seal and don't fuck with it.

There is a delicate carbon seal on the back side of the impeller that if you
should disturb this balance you will only know when you put the car back
together and run it.

But by then it will be to late
So what I would do is inspect the housing and that's it.

That is what I did when I did the recent service on my car and I talked to
the lead tech at Ferrari ATL and he said the same this

DON'T FUCK WITH IT !

Hopefully you got this message in time

Subject: [Ferrari] How to remove TR water pump

Hi listers,

it's been a while since I last posted here, but here goes a couple

of Ferrari questions! :-)

I'm helping a friend with a full service on a 88' TR. We currently have the

engine out, cam covers out, all valve clearances measured (three need

adjustment). We are of course going to replace the belts and tensioners, as

well as all cam seals, etc, etc.

Questions are

- to remove the water pump is it enough to remove the two screws that hold

it's cover or do we need to remove the front engine cover, which would

require both belts to be removed, as well as the camshaft pulley?

- if we need to remove the pulley, is it a left or right thread bolt?

Thanks!

Rui
