Damn good thread. I've done many car deals over the years. Been screwed
twice and that's enough. Here is my two cents:
- Do not bring wife/girlfriend to the showdown. My wife once blinked (just
a tug on the arm, and I knew I was toast and the serious dealing was over)
and cost me a couple of hundred bucks on a new Tundra.
- Be ready to buy then and there. Make sure the seller is convinced of
that.
- Be ready to walk in a heartbeat. The seller has to be know that you have
no problem walking.
- Be patient. Real patient. Once took me 6 months to get the car I wanted
at the price I wanted to pay. Still have that Ferrari.
- Don't be a horse's ass. Treat the seller with respect.
- Price? Easy. Just decide a non-rediculous figure that'll make you happy
and will bring you a warm glow everytime you look at the car in your
driveway. Weld that amount into your brain and never waver. Believe me, if
you're patient, you'll get the car you want at the price you want to give.
- Remember, you've got the wallet, you've got the time. Everything's in
your favor. Never give up those advantges.
