Good point IMHO - I can see some sellers replacing the radio with a lesser model!

I fully believe in Ken pricing but what would happen if the dealer took
your check, deposited it, and then claimed it was a down payment for the car or a substantial deposit? I would worry about a scum bag dealer (over here
in the UK at least) taking the money but still asking for more. It
would/could be a real hassle to get your money back..

Am I alone in wondering this? With a private seller I would never pay
without having the car papers in my hand the second I handed over the money. Lots of things can disappear from a car if you buy it and don't take it with
you...books, car cover, tools, receipts, ect.

Maybe I am just less trust worthy than you guys. If I screw the price down
(which I do) I don't want to leave the car with the vendor for one second
because if they feel they didn't get as much as they wanted they might try
to make the money back some other way.

Thoughts?

Once I bought a pickup. It was a new model, and the huge dealer only had
two in on the vast lot, out of literally a thousand cars baking in the hot Texas sun. All those units sitting there making interest for the local bank
on the floor plan. They wanted $32,000. I offered $28,000. Nope.

The salesman started into his time worn, hours-long routine. I stopped
him. Wrote out a check for $28,000 and dropped it on the desk. "If your
manager changes his mind give me a call" I said, "Cash it or tear it up. I'm
going home to dinner" (it was after work). And I left.

Took me 30 minutes to drive to the house. The phone rang as I was pulling
up the driveway.

There are lots of 430s out there. Will this work for Jim? I don't know.
But if anyone has the cojones to drop a $140,000 check on the guy's desk and walk out I think Conforti does. Forget that they are assholes, they have a clock in their head and every time the phone rings they wonder if the bank
is calling.

Besides it is too much fun to watch the look on the guy's face when you
actually leave.
