I too have a definite preference for my non-computer 400i because I don't
want to be held hostage to proprietary products (the software program) any
more than necessary down the road. Plus I just like simple mechanical
things for their aesthetic appeal alone, just like old clocks or mechanical
watches. Oops, sorry about bringing watches into the thread!

However, it seems to me that future restorations won't really be all that
much more difficult because of the computers as long as the programming code
is accessible or can be obtained. My thinking is that all of this stuff
still controls mechanical bits, such as fuel delivery, ignition timing,
valve timing, suspension settings, etc. and that swapping out a control module
should not be difficult as long as the map of the program is available. In
other words, the actual box might be a pretty generic item that can be
programmed to control any number of cars with similar mechanical systems.

The key is whether that coding is available from the factory or can be
reverse engineered by the aftermarket industry. If hackers can get into the
Pentagon's computer network, hacking the codes into a Ferrari's transmission
control program ought to be child's play by comparison.

Am I wrong about that?

Actually, I think that I prefer my 308 to a 360. At least with
specialist companies, you can now get all of the little bits and
pieces you need to keep one running. Doubt that will be the same for
all of the computers that are in the 360 when they are 20 year old
cars.
