Ah well,

I can get you several of those (at least close enough to fool most)... I have one myself that I picked up in Shenzhen. Admittedly tougher to bring these into Europe (I am told the fines are quite large). But it wouldn't cost you a 308 either :)

But I have to say anyone who wants to trade their sports car in for a watch (even if it were a Miata), is just not a car enthusiast. Sorry Erik. I never will understand the "more money than sense watches" any more than I get the whole Vertu business model. I see the appeal of a Ferrari, all of the ones I have driven have unique sounds and driving persona that makes you want to push it a bit harder everytime you get behind the wheel, and no question they look amazing just sitting still, but to exchange that experience for a piece of jewelry? Blasphemy I say!

Well, you also need one of these.

And if you read the fine print, it's basically unobtainium today,
while the cars are still under warranty.

And to further muddle the conversation, I would be willing to part
with my 308, but not for a 360, I will take a Patek Philippe 5130 for
it.

I too have a definite preference for my non-computer 400i because I don't
want to be held hostage to proprietary products (the software program) any
more than necessary down the road. Plus I just like simple mechanical
things for their aesthetic appeal alone, just like old clocks or mechanical
watches. Oops, sorry about bringing watches into the thread!

However, it seems to me that future restorations won't really be all that
much more difficult because of the computers as long as the programming code
is accessible or can be obtained. My thinking is that all of this stuff
still controls mechanical bits, such as fuel delivery, ignition timing,
valve timing, suspension settings, etc. and that swapping out a control
module should not be difficult as long as the map of the program is
available. In other words, the actual box might be a pretty generic item
that can be programmed to control any number of cars with similar mechanical
systems.

The key is whether that coding is available from the factory or can be
reverse engineered by the aftermarket industry. If hackers can get into the
Pentagon's computer network, hacking the codes into a Ferrari's transmission
control program ought to be child's play by comparison.

Am I wrong about that?

Actually, I think that I prefer my 308 to a 360. At least with
specialist companies, you can now get all of the little bits and
pieces you need to keep one running. Doubt that will be the same for
all of the computers that are in the 360 when they are 20 year old
cars.

The 360 is the new 308 and it is what it is
This is a 50$k car tops
Who I feel sorry for is the guys who bought late model 355's converts and
payed full pop and kept them thinking they had a pay day coming in the
future
These guys have to be on suicide watch!
And guess what's next?
The 360.

I am with you
There is a 575M at F of ATL with a $139k sticker on it and I looked at it
while I was there looking at your car
He called me as I left an said I could have the car for 109k
And there were 2 used Californias on the showroom floor!
Let them starve I say this economy is not coming back anytime soon
And no one needs a 100+k car now a days

Beat away. I love this discussion - I love watching pigheaded assholes
stubbornly refuse to sell cars "because they are going to lose money" as
if somehow wishing can reverse the passage of time. This could actually
become somewhat of a hobby. LOL.

(Almost makes me want to buy a Porsche)

OK, rant over - back on topic ;)

Truth be told, I think the 360's have suffered most of their depreciation.

The oldest of them are 11 years old, the newest are 5.

The cars have stabilized from $80k to $120k.

(excluding those same "pigheaded assholes" who think their car is worth
$130k+)

Will they all someday be between $60 and 90k?

Sure. but MOST of the depreciation is done.

The F430 will eventually end up in the 90 to 110k range, IMHO.
