I'm with you Ed - Agree with the diesels at Lemans (and I love diesels) it's
just the switch away from gasoline loses something for me. BTW, F-1 lost
me when the cars revved so fast that they started to sound like crazed
sewing machines. Call me crazy (everybody does) - but I like to hear the
engine thumping as it climbs to redline.
But people will say I'm clinging to the past -- and truth is I'd rather go to a historic LM, Monaco or Monte Carlo Rally rather than the new version. ;-)
And, that's probably a big part is why I dislike hybrids, etc. - they just don't sound like they should...

Must of the glory days of sound is already gone. Have you heard a LeMans diesel racer at full song lately? My old 911 makes more noise with thestock pipes idling in the driveway. If you want to hear real race cars, youalmost have to go to an old CanAm historic race. The cars always seem to sound so much better when they rattle your insides as they pass. :-) Ed 911SC On 2 March 2010 19:02, Matt Boyd <ferrari308driver [at] gmail.com> wrote:I thought I read the 16 mile range is if you go fully electric, which typically wouldn't be the mode folks use -- but would be an additional option for short trips? Sounds pretty cool for a hybrid. The thing I'm most worried about in the future of electric cars is the sound (or lack thereof). I keep envisioning 15-20 years from now the differentseries of auto races, from F1 to Nascar, with silent cars. Do Tesla ownersput external speakers on their cars and hook up some sensor to the accelerator or somewhere so it can simulate "normal" sounds? -matt '85 308 On Tue, Mar 2, 2010 at 6:41 PM, Paul K Rentiers <rentiers [at] me.com> wrote: > Cost, complexity, sixteen mile range.
