While not as truly awesome a driver as Clyde, I replaced the 348's
clutch at about 22k miles, but that was probably from learning to heel
and toe at the track with it, some significant heat (Texas), and the
clutch pads were OK, it was the spring plate that lost its teeth
(literally). My E46 M3's clutch failed at about 44k, and again it was a mechanical problem with the clutch itself, it did not just "wear out", in this case one of the balancer springs let loose and bulleted itself through the clutch housing (down at the street fortunately). Neither Vette, nor my 1st M3 or Boxster (or Spec Miata with 135k miles on it) had any kind of issues... But a few tips: Never leave your left foot on the clutch pedal, even lightly. When engaging and disengaging do it quickly and smoothly, don't linger mid gear, or with the clutch half way in, all the way in, and back out, quickly and smoothly (the latter probably is easier to get right first, the former comes with time).
