I've only watched videos, and read reports as many of us have, but I would greatly suspect, the "standard" 599 handles very little like the GTO or XX. I think the GTO and the XX programmes bring prestige to the model, and help sales of the standard car. Don't get me wrong, the performance of the standard 599 is pretty much world class, but I think some of the thinking behind these limited models, is to bring attention to the more obtainable 599, much like the 911 GT3, and GT3 RS, brighten the allure of the 997.
A car is more than just numbers. And while a GTO may be faster than an Enzo, I would think how they both get around the track and do their thing, is very different.

Considering the GTO project AND the 599 XX programs, I'd say we're all grossly underestimating the handling characteristics of this car:I'm of the opinion that Ferrari actually made some 'adjustments' after they concluded the 550/575 production - those cars sucked on the track, and owners weren't shy about saying so at the time. I agree that the HorsePower war is still going strong, and machines are being designed/built/sold to the general public that most of their owners cannot possibly utilize to anywhere near their full potential, safely, on our streets or on most race-tracks. So what? I would love to track a 599 - the car's capabilities far-exceeds my driving ability to find, let alone explore, the car's traction or cornering limits, so I would expect that it would be extremely difficult for a driver like me to 'get into trouble' and bend something expensive. But that's just how my mind works.M

I'm very interested in what you think would be the best ones for track use? I know that there are several listers, and of course other owners, who have tracked their 512TRs, but that has little or no appeal for me (except insofar as I could hear the engine wail at some place like the Glen.) My track car (and daily driver) is a 993, which I think is just right for me, but I've been curious about red alternatives.
And even if most can swing a 360 or 430 , they might be hesitant to track it I think. A shame, but totally understandable.
308 gt/4 would be cheap and fun....my pick. IMy next step up would be 348.
