Ferrari Mailing List: 308 A/C: how much ?

1981 308 GTSi: I've had my 308 for 9 years and never used the A/C because it's not working. 2 years ago my mechanic told me the freom was empty.

But something else might be broken too. I have decided to do something about it. I have an appointment for next monday.

Here are my questions:

1- How much is a used working A/C system (everything included) worth ?

I'm thinking of taking everything off and sell it on Ebay. Without the A/C my radiator should get more cool air too.

 

If he tells me the cost of fixing it is too high for me, because I know I won't use it that often anyway, I'll probably sell the A/C.

2- Should I ask him to take everything off ? 

If I do so, am I wasting my money ? Comparing the cost of paying a mechanic to take the whole system off with the money I'll get from selling it !!!!!!

 

3- Is this something I could do myself ? It looks pretty easy.  Has anybody done it and how is it done ?
