If you think for a second that you're buying a well-sorted, no-issues 348 for that kind of money, you would be very, VERY wrong. These early-90s cars have needs, and their book-values have fallen below their existing maintenance costs - you know what that means. Expect Deferred maintenance, you can't just wonder about it anymore. Even 355s have parts-availability issues now. The Fuel injectors for 355s are NLA, won't be long now before other things on those cars get Mega-scarce. You're going to trust the brakes/suspension/hoses on a 15+ year old car at 8,000 RPM without so much as a thorough and professional inspection/evaluation? You're an expert mechanic in your own right to know good from bad under the hood? Good luck to you....because even the FChat shade-tree 'experts' get it wrong. I get
tired of reading about so-and-so who had an engine-fire last weekend....and can't understand WHY....oh, really? How old were those fuel lines, did you think they'd last forever with modern Ethanol additives? Or that they'd be cheap to access and replace?
Aside from that, few people have the Nutt and the garage--logistics to work on 348/355 and newer cars themselves 'easily' or well. That's why people who 'know' speak highly of the 308/328 series or older cars - easier to work on, less electronic stuff to troubleshoot, and many of the Bosch parts cross-reference with other makes, thus are still available - its the Ferrari-specific stuff that is getting harder and harder to source. We have a mildly-insane guy in our group who is rebuilding his 355 motor - you think my rebuild sounds expensive? My parts are cheap compared to his.....his motor ran 'great' until the compression/leakdown numbers said otherwise....and then the fun began!
