Matt, best of luck on the trip.

Are  you planning on Monterey in mid Aug for the Historics?

Seems like the perfect fit...

Hans,

Nope, no A/C, but at least the car is black!!!

Wait....

Yup, and the neat thing is that the heat from the engine compartment radiates through the firewall. I tried to remedy that a bit with some Eastwood thermocoustic with very limited success. Today and tomorrow going across Texas will be our biggest challenge. I was able to fill up with Ethanol Free gas here and have our next two gas stops plotted out with ethanol free fuel, so hopefully vapor lock won't be part of our next leg (although I have an auxiliary fuel pump that will negate the problem...).

All,

Just an FYI for those on the list, I'm on a cross country drive. We've done this several times before in our 2004 Sienna and our 1999 Bounder RV, but this time we're in the 1939 Rolls-Royce Phantom-III. For those who don't know, the Phantom-III (P-III) is the large horsepower car from RR of that vintage, which means a 7.4 liter V12. While not friendly on fuel (despite a new overdrive, I'm still struggling to get 8mpg), we can power along the interstates, up all the mountains, etc. along with the rest of the traffic. Right now I'm visiting my grandparents in Mississippi, but from here we're heading west (tomorrow) across Texas, staying at Carlsbad Caverns, then a night on the road, a night in Albuquerque, a night at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ, then about 3 nights on the road (with stops at a corner in Winslow, Grand Canyon, etc) on our way to 3 nights stay at Sequoia NP, 1 night at Yosemite NP, and then finally a week in Lake Tahoe for the Rolls-Royce Owners Club Annual Meet. Not sure what all we're doing on the way home, more winging it that way, but hoping for stops in Zion/Bryce/Arches, a Pike's Peak ascent, etc.

For those interested, you can follow our adventure here:

If you're along the route and want to meet for a meal, drop me a line....
