Ahem, the P-III is equipped with the state of the art A/C system available in 1939.
I believe it is referred to as the 4-6-Zero FACS (Fresh Air Cooling System.)
Roll down all four windows and maintain at least 60mph for maximum efficiency.

All,

Just an FYI for those on the list, I'm on a cross country drive. We've done this several times before in our 2004 Sienna and our 1999 Bounder RV, but this time we're in the 1939 Rolls-Royce Phantom-III. For those who don't know, the Phantom-III (P-III) is the large horsepower car from RR of that vintage, which means a 7.4 liter V12. While not friendly on fuel (despite a new overdrive, I'm still struggling to get 8mpg), we can power along the interstates, up all the mountains, etc. along with the rest of the traffic. Right now I'm visiting my grandparents in Mississippi, but from here we're heading west (tomorrow) across Texas, staying at Carlsbad Caverns, then a night on the road, a night in Albuquerque, a night at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ, then about 3 nights on the road (with stops at a corner in Winslow, Grand Canyon, etc) on our way to 3 nights stay at Sequoia NP, 1 night at Yosemite NP, and then finally a week in Lake Tahoe for the Rolls-Royce Owners Club Annual Meet. Not sure what all we're doing on the way home, more winging it that way, but hoping for stops in Zion/Bryce/Arches, a Pike's Peak ascent, etc.

For those interested, you can follow our adventure here:

If you're along the route and want to meet for a meal, drop me a line....
