I have been through this issue with my 1988 Testarossa over the past
year. First my garage had a bad smell. Then I noticed an oily stain
just inside the driver rear tire. I told my mechanic I thought there
was some kind of fluid leak. He tightened some fittings. Then one day
I went for a Sunday drive and my gas tank was empty. So I used my
lawnmower gas container to put in a gallon and then drove to the gas
station for a fillup. When I got home, gas was squirting out the bottom
of the car. I opened the filler cap and the pressure was relieved, the
squirt lessening to a trickle. So this was obviously a fuel line issue
and I just now had all the fuel lines replaced- after 23 years what can
you expect. The only thing I think is odd is that the initial smell was
not of gasoline and that is why I thought it was some kind of oil or
hydraulic fluid. Anyone know how to get gasoline stains off fresh concrete?

However, not everytime I go for a drive, then park it in the garage, does the garage stink from gasoline. There are no drip marks on the floor, nor can I smell any particularly strong gasoline odors unique to either side of the engine compartment.?? ?Does anyone have any ideas how I can find the leak, or whatever?? ? ? ? Where do you fill up, at a gas station after you just drove it? If you have not replaced the vent hoses (including the filler hose) your playing a fireball. if want visible proof( I do not recommend this) when you get it home, let it cool down overnight, Then top it off from a gas can I mean to where the gas is next to overflowing the filler. Put the cap back on give it at least an hour and see(smell) follow your nose use a flashlight and shine it on the tanks, I think you will find the source, my money is on the vent hoses on the tank Passenger side (left hand drive).
