Hi Doug,

Good luck with that fuel leak/fume issue. Apart from all the great advice from everyone so far, I wonder if the sudden change aspect may be a clue. Apart from simple old age of components, is it possible that there was some sort of specific trauma? For example, was any work done on the car that could have incidentally or accidentally stressed something such as a metal fuel line, causing a small crack in one of the metal fuel lines, especially at a solder/weld (??) point?  Incidentally, my 308gt4 used to be pretty stinky, but then again, it was always stinky, not a sudden change. My clothes stank of fumes after going for a drive. The fuel lines and filler pipe were all ok but it probably needed a carbie overhaul, as you could see around some of the joints in the carbies where there was fuel and grunge discolouration over time, but I never got it right before the engine dropped the exhaust valve and committed harakiri, so I replaced the whole thing with an injected engine and the stink is gone - a radical solution nonetheless and not ideal!  :)

Cheers,

Grahame

Hmmmmm – out of 73 responses to my question I get 71 who suggest I replace the fuel filler hose.

OK guys – that’s good enough for me.

I was teetering on the brink for awhile, but by golly, I’m gonna do it.

Thanks.

DOUG

Heh heh

Yikes – a carbed 308 GTS

No apparent gushing – no wet spots on the floor – but a definite smell.

Any hints of common trouble spots?

Thanks

DOUG
