I, too, just got a 27" iMac. I love it. I've always like Apple/Mac products, but used PCs both at work (what they gave me) and at home (price).
I got MS Office for Mac with mine, so all those files are compatible. I would think that for pretty much any application, there's a mac version, or a mac equivalent (if you're not so hooked on a PC app that you can't transition to a mac equivalent). For example, Photoshop may or may not be available for Mac, but the equivalent is called "Aperture" and seems to do everything I need it to do (though I'm no pro!). So I'll sacrifice my Photoshop for Aperture and work my pics in that from now on. But what impressed me most was setting up my printer - an 8 year old Epson. Plugged it in (USB) and the Mac detected it and asked if I wanted it to go find the drivers for it. Uh, yes, thank you. Then it asked if I wanted it to install said drivers. Why, sure! 2 minutes later, I was printing. Since this is my first Mac, it seems fair to compare it to my first PC - which took a full day just to get the stupid thing to print one page. But since that was many moons ago, it's probably *not* fair to make that comparison. I'm told that modern PCs are almost as good as the mac in that regard. But it sure was impressive nonetheless. gp |
