Clyde,

>From the NRA-ILA glossary..

ASSAULT RIFLE
By U.S. Army definition, a selective-fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of
intermediate power. If applied to any semi-automatic firearm regardless of
its cosmetic similarity to a true assault rifle, the term is incorrect.
ASSAULT WEAPON
Any weapon used in an assault (see WEAPON).
WEAPON
Webster defines it as "an instrument of offensive or defensive combat." Thus
an automobile, baseball bat, bottle, chair, firearm, fist, pen knife or
shovel is a "weapon," if so used.

You suggest that we use the NRA definition of assault weapon, which is O.K.
with me.

And so to your question: Who on the list still thinks we need assault
weapons? If we use the NRA definition of Assault Weapon, then by definition,
a Ferrari could be considered an assault weapon, if it is used as an
instrument of offensive or defensive combat. Then the question could be
changed to: Who on the list still thinks we need Ferraris? Conversely, if a
civilized AR-15 is used for target shooting, and not as an instrument of
offensive or defensive combat, then by definition, it must NOT be an assault
weapon.

To me, the issue is not about need.....it is about rights.....it is about
political power and therefore votes.....it is about increasing government
control......and......it is about loss of individual liberty.

An armed law-abiding person is a CITIZEN! A disarmed law-abiding person is a
SUBJECT!
For those who understand this distinction, no explanation is necessary. For
those who do not understand this distinction, no explanation is possible.
