I'm very late to the party. Just catching up on some reading as I've been too busy to keep up with things. Rather an apt discussion as I'm in the process, after all these years, of buying my first Ferrari - a blue 79 308GT4 (Euro of course - being over here). Having read what everyone has said, one of the reasons I have gone for this car is precisely because it DOES have carbs. I don't want a daily driver. I want something old school with a great sound that I can occasionally really enjoy. If I want something trouble free that still goes like stink, but in fact is pretty boring, I get in my 2.8L V6 Turbo GM Vectra thingy! I have always loved the Bertone shape, even more so now, and I love it in blue so as long as it all goes through, week after next if all goes according to plan, I'll be a very happy bunny :-) I'm no mechanic so probably won't be doing much taking things apart in the engine compartment, but I'm looking forward to giving the car a bit of TLC. It needs a bit of professional work done on the body, but nothing too scary or (I hope) expensive. I think I've got a good deal, and certainly over here these cars are going up in value at a good rate. Anyway, I'm now 64 and if I don't do it now I never will. And with interest rates as they are I might as well put some of my pension money into something that I don't think is going to go down in value, and enjoy it a bit more than having it sit in a bank account earning not very much.
